Description:

Bor8 Rods, formerly known as Impel Rods, are concentrated, solid forms of borate, a highly effective and well established wood preservative.  Borates are highly toxic to fungal decay (i.e. wood rot) and many insects at concentrations that are not poisonous to humans or other mammals. Borates are used to effectively control termites, carpenter ants, a variety of beetles, and other wood-boring insects.

The use of Bor8 Rods is an effective way to protect the internal areas of logs and timbers.  Bor8 Rods are typically installed in moisture-prone areas of logs where surface-applied liquid borates do not reach.   When moisture levels are less than the levels suitable for decay to attack wood, the borate in Bor8 Rods is dormant.  However, when moisture levels increase to around 25%, the moisture causes Bor8 Rods to slowly dissolve and diffuse throughout the wood to provide needed protection.   If the moisture level drops below the level needed for decay, the Bor8 Rod will become dormant again.

Bor8 Rods are EPA-approved, and easy to install.  Simply drill appropriate sized holes in moisture prone areas of wood, insert the Bor8 Rods into the holes, and seal each hole with a treated wood dowel, wood filler or caulk.  Leave a minimum of 1/8 inch of space between the Bor8 Rod and the hole plug to allow for expansion.  After installation of Bor8 Rods, a surface stain or finish may be applied to the wood if desired.
